DescriptionProgressive regional CPA firm is currently searching a Tax Manager, Audit Manager, and an Audit Senior for their Silicon Valley office, located in San Jose. Manager candidates should have proven practice development skills along with very strong corporate tax technical skills. Current Partners or Senior Managers with strong practice development skills and a client following in the Silicon Valley will also be considered for a direct entry Partnership career opportunity.
This firm is very entrepreneurial and consulting oriented, and has been ranked among the best CPA firms to work for in the U. S. Clients include both SEC and closely held corporations, along with high net worth individuals in a variety of industries. They are a great alternative to the Big 4 for prospective Partners, Managers, and employees, as well as clients seeking more personalized service. They do not maintain a high stress, demanding corporate culture, and employees are not treated as a number or one of the masses. Work environment is not at all typical of the public accounting grind and they offer a very reasonable work/life balance.

General Summary for the Tax Manager position:
Provide the Firms full range of services on a fee basis to designated clients, in a manner consistent with the best interest of the specific client and the Firms philosophy.
Essential Duties
1. Responsible for all services rendered to clients in the functional areas of taxes and management advisory services. 2. Review and sign off on accountants tax returns. 3. Involved with the administration of the personnel function as it relates to acquisition, training, retention, and utilization of accounting staff. Recruits or assigns individuals to recruit students at selected colleges and universities. Interviews and extends initial offers of employment to potential accounting staff employees. Reviews and evaluates accounting staff personnel for purposes of promotion and salary adjustment. Releases employees on the accounting staff who are not to be retained. 4. Maintain required technical competence through professional literature, financial publications, and attendance at professional development seminars. 5. Develop new business through expanding services rendered to existing clients, pursuing contact with prospective clients, and maintaining contacts with bankers, attorneys, investment bankers, and others. 6. Involved in establishing an annual Training Program for the professional tax staff and develops specific programs for various levels of the tax accounting staff. 7. Emphasizes continuity in the assigning of accounting staff to specific assignments. Counsels with the accounting staff on their grievances, professional development, and progress with the firm. 8. Involved with updating the Firms Quality Control Document.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Demonstrated knowledge of current tax laws. 2. Proficiency in use of computer tax preparation, tax research, and tax planning software programs. 3. Evident leadership and interpersonal skills to work effectively with all levels of company.
Supervisory Responsibilities
1. Responsible for the development and training of supervising seniors, seniors, semi-seniors and staff accountants. 2. Must be familiar with the qualifications of all Tax staff members for the development and instruction of their training needs. 3. Participates in reviews and evaluations of the tax department.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. At least five #5# years experience in public accounting, demonstrating a proven progression in tax complexity, scope, and research. 2. At least one year of experience representing clients before taxing authorities. 3. Minimum one year experience supervising and directing work of tax preparers. 4. Bachelors degree in accounting required, Masters degree in taxation preferred. 5. Minimum of forty hours of continuing education is required each year to maintain and develop technical and business skills. 6. A current and valid certified public accountants license is required. 7. Must be a member in good standing with the American Institute of CPAs. 8. Prefer experience with a Big-4, national, or large local CPA firm specializing in corporate tax.
