Position
Reporting to the COO & CEO, the VP of Finance will set organization’s financial policy and direction while also being an active participant in, and driver of, the organization’s overall strategy.    
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities & Other Duties as Assigned:

Responsible for the development of financial management strategies, controls and reporting across all supported organizations.  Responsible for supplying upper management all financial information necessary for making policy decisions. Also responsible for the computation and timely payment of all required tax reports, including federal, state and local filings, and any leasehold or contractual obligations. Accountable for ensuring department’s strategic goals are relevant and aligned with the organization’s strategic plan.  Supervises directly or indirectly all accounting functions: budgeting, cost accounting, general accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, etc.  Position is charged with development and implementation of financial policies and procedures and is responsible for directing and coordinating, in partnership with the management team, the activities of the finance, accounting, payroll and billing department.

Financial/Budgetary
  • Financial Reporting – Overall responsibility for all financial reporting to board of directors, internal departments and executive team and all outside parties, tax and other filings, licenses, contracts, budgets, audits, and financial surveys. Responsibility for organization due dates (DDM) and contracts.
  • Financial Analytics – Overall responsibility for operating and cash flow budgets, financial modelling, department and company metrics, capital spending and tracking.
  • Business relationships – Responsibility to maintain relationships with outside business consultants and partners including vendors, banks, attorneys, Insurance brokers, benefit consultants, internal and external customers.
  • Compensation and benefits – Financial oversight of compensation and benefits, retirement plans, life insurance and non-qualified deferred compensation plan.
  • Properties and facilities – Financial oversight of all properties including owned and leased properties, capital budgets, leases insurance and capital budgets.
  • Technology - Financial oversight of all technology including leases, purchases and development.
  • Transportation - Financial oversight of all technology including leases, and purchases.
  • Board of Directors – Overall responsibility to provide board of directors all financial information requested as required.
  • Risk management – Overall responsibility for mitigation and management of corporate risk for all companies and departments.
  • Outside clients – Responsible to assist in development of outside sales, delivery of services and maintenance of outside relationships.
  • Financial and investment oversight – Primary responsibility for oversight of investment portfolio and 401k.
  • Oversees banking activities of the organization and monitors operating cash flow.
  • Negotiates vendor agreements for maximum efficiency.
  • Interprets contract requirements and ensures all government regulations and requirements are disseminated to appropriate personnel and monitors departmental compliance.
  • Oversees preparation of budgets, financial forecasts and projections, reports and cost analysis. Ensures department’s provision of timely and accurate analyses of budgets and financial reports that assist agency executives in their activities and functions.
  • Ensures that organization develops and maintains systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets of the organization and oversees governmental (federal, state, county) awards and programs.
  • Actively participates with other Community Centered Board (CCB) finance leaders in state budget hearings and figure setting meetings; informs C-suite as to ramifications on funding of services.
  • Serves as a liaison between the organization and our business insurance broker to provide necessary financial and organization information for insurance renewal.
  • Oversees and manages the coordination and activities of independent auditors ensuring all audit issues are resolved, and all compliance issues are met, and that preparation of the annual financial statements is in accordance with federal, state and other required supplementary schedules and information.
  • Recognizes and responds to the needs of executive management as well as department leaders.
  • Communicates (oral and written) in appropriate, effective, and respectful manner with persons served, supervisors, other staff, agencies, and organizations. 
Education & Experience
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
  • Demonstrated leadership with ten+ years of financial experience with day-to-day management and/or supervision of operations in an organization of at least 50 persons.
  • Nonprofit experience highly preferred.
  • Public accounting experience preferred.
  • Advanced degree or professional certification, preferably with a financial emphasis.
  • Thorough working knowledge in all aspects of not-for-profit accounting in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, program regulations and compliance requirements and appropriate Code of Federal Regulations sections. 
  • Thorough working knowledge of appropriate accounting related computer software and equipment for use in daily activities, including Great Plains.
