Reporting to the Corporate Controller of one of the most dynamic companies in the United States, our client is profitable, growing, and offers a tremendous work life balance culture. In this role you will manage a staff of ten people who deal with all sales tax, personal property tax, business registration and state filing requirements for one of the areas premier companies.
Areas of Responsibility:
Manages company compliance with indirect tax matters, including periodic tax payments, information reporting, and other taxing authority requirements. Manages team of nine associates.
Represents organization before taxing authorities, including auditors. Manages all communications between company and auditors. Provides potential and final assessment information to senior management, regional, district and branch management staff.
Researches sales tax regulations, policies and provides sales tax advice to branches, divisions, manufacturing units and subsidiaries. Oversees maintenance of tax reference charts, including those used for resale/exemption certificates.
Conducts internal sales tax audits of branches and special projects.
Advises management regarding sales tax effects of business activities, including acquisitions.
Works closely with and reviews work of personal property tax consultants. Coordinates download of asset files to the consultants. Completes personal property tax accruals and reviews assessments and approves bills.
Ensure that proper business licenses are obtained for new locations, approve payments for new and renewal applications.
Prepares documentation for appropriate Secretary of State filing requirements. Reviews annual reports with state offices. Reviews documentation and renewals of assumed/fictitious names.
Requirements and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting and a minimum of ten years relevant experience. CPA preferred.
Industry based experience preferred.
Strong analysis and comprehension skills. Familiar with common tax technical publications, regulations, financial reports and legal documents.
Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated skill in responding to inquiries from internal and external customers, including senior management and regulatory agencies.
Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience with sales tax return and research software required. Knowledge of Vertex software preferred.
Background with point-of-sale and/or accounting systems is a plus.
Comfortable with growth and change and able to adapt to a fast-paced work environment.
Experience managing staff, particularly in high growth environments.
A team player, able to work collaboratively and build strong relationships across the organization.
