Primarily accountable for all financial aspects (i.e. pre-award budget review, post-award financial management, financial reporting and cash drawdowns) of the University's federal, state and private sponsored research program and other external grants. Accountable for ensuring the University's overall adherence to federal Uniform Guidance and agency-specific compliance. Assists in a variety of general accounting matters within the Office of Accounting and Control.

The position has the following specific responsibilities:
• A resource for faculty on all accounting and compliance related matters for sponsored research. Monitors budgets and grant expenditures, assists with financial reporting and resolution of contract /grant issues or interpretations.
• Stays current on industry and regulatory policies and regulations, and disseminates information to all appropriate individuals.
• Takes a lead role in grant financial policy discussions and recommends/implements changes as necessary.
• Primary contact with our auditors for the Uniform Guidance Single Audit for compliance with the (federal) Office of Management and Budget requirements. Prepares all necessary schedules and documentation for the Single Audit.
• Submits and reconciles the monthly and quarterly federal cash draw requests in an accurate and timely manner, in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.
• Provides data for and may prepare the Facilities and Administrative Cost Rate calculation submitted to the Department of Health and Human Services, in accordance with established deadlines.
• Prepares the Data Collection Form to the federal Audit Clearinghouse, in accordance with established deadlines.
• Assists in the preparation of the University's audited financial statements.
• Supervises the functions of internal grant accounting, gift reconciliation, and reconciliation of monthly bank statements, including all foreign bank accounts and the University's travel and expense program, ensuring functions are accurate and timely.
• Records monthly operating activity and acts as primary liaison to the University's subsidiaries on accounting matters, including coordinating and preparing information for audits and serving as a resource.
• Manages the faculty housing and interest reimbursement loan programs.
• Serves as a resource, and provides support and guidance as needed, on a wide range of accounting and finance policies and procedures.
• Serves as a representative of the accounting office or finance division on committees.
• Leads and/or assists with projects and strategic initiatives.


• Must have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in related field, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable skills are acquired.
• A minimum of three years experience in accounting. Demonstrated broad-based knowledge of accounting principles.
• Demonstrated ability in leading projects.
• Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to influence others.
• Demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Office Suite and experience using and learning other accounting and financial systems.
• Demonstrated communications skills, both verbal and written, used to explain financial, federal compliance and university polices to a wide range of constituents.
• Demonstrated analytical and conceptual thinking skills with the ability to execute such plans.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Must be capable of working collegially with a diverse group of faculty, staff and students within a university setting.

PReferred Qualifications:
CPA preferred.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Familiarity with Uniform Guidance and/or grant accounting.
• Experience in an educational institution.
• Experience with not-for-profit accounting.
• Experience with Banner.
