Non-profit with huge growth is seeking an experienced Controller to play a key role in managing the financial and operational reporting functions for the organization. The Controller manages a small staff and oversees all accounting operations and related systems, financial analysis and reporting, annual audits, internal controls, and policies and procedures. Our ideal candidate has prior experience with and a keen interest in systems implementation and automation and driving process improvements and efficiencies in a highly collaborative environment. This position will play a critical role in helping the organization scale its systems and processes to support ongoing growth. This may be a succession track to CFO.
  • Prepare, analyze, report and distribute financial information and supporting schedules in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly and annual financial results; monitor progress and changes to keep senior leadership abreast of financial status
  • Proactively Identify and implement process, workflow and system improvements and efficiencies to standardize, automate and streamline operations
  • Supervise general ledger, accounts receivable, cash receipts, accounts payable, payroll, and all related transactions
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain cash flow forecast and regular analysis of cash requirements
  • Maintain internal control and safeguards for costs, program budgets and actual expenditures
  • Support presentations to Board committees
  • Manage the preparation and process of the annual audit and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Assist with the annual budgeting and monthly forecasting process
  • Responsible for the hiring, training, supervising, and evaluation of accounting staff
  • Provide assistance to CFO as it relates to financial operations
  • BA/BS in Accounting or related field with minimum of 8 years’ experience as Accounting Manager, Director or Controller with general accounting and financial statement responsibility
  • CPA preferred
  • Experience and interest in process, operational and system improvements
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • A proactive, hands-on strategic thinker
  • Keen analytic, organization and problem solving skills which allows for strategic data interpretation vs. simple reporting
  • Strong interpersonal skills, experience in effectively communicating key data and metrics
  • Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels
  • Must be strong at multi-tasking, prioritizing, and have demonstrated expertise in proactively working in projects of wide scope and significant magnitude
  • Must demonstrate high degree of flexibility and adaptability required or indicative of a startup, entrepreneurial or changing work environment
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
